Links

Welcome to the Links Page, where we will be adding links to revelant events, such as links used in rallies, movies, etc to spread the knowledge.

During the first Rochester Tent City Rally (at RRCD) we had an question-and-answer session, and those were some of the links used.

  • One of the biggest ‘evidence’ used against Fernandes were this vlog, created by Amy Cohen Efron, which explores the verbose side of this protest– especially those spoken by I. King Jordan and Jane Fernandes. Overall, a very well-done vlog. I look forward for more vlogs from Amy.

  • During the Q&A session, one of the most insipirational movie was shown during the session. It is “Let’s Meet Gideon”, an film made by Mosdeux, an deaf film company headquartered in Northern California,  with the founder an RIT Graduate (Wayne Betts, Jr.) The short film is an interview with Gideon, an aspiring young lad. I will not ruin your viewing experince, after all, its worth seeing.

  • One of our attendees (I REALLY wish I didnt forget his name, would someone refer me to him ASAP? I have things planned for that guy) discussed that he was miserable that NTID, in both their students and faculty, did not show much support until he unearthed an article in the Inside Higher Education e-zine which stated a crucial question which proves that Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz has already voiced his issues on this protest. The question itself is taken from the long article (which itself is an interesting insight into I. King Jordan’s mind).

Q: Do you know T. Alan Hurwitz, dean of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf?

A: Sure. Sure, I know Alan very well.

Q: He wrote an e-mail saying that he believes that the problems here have been caused by the selection process for Dr. Fernandes. He wrote, “I believe that the controversy is based on a flawed selection process, nothing else.”

A: So what was an issue is the belief by some of the protesters that the process was flawed. But the board has again and again explained the process. It was very open, transparent, inclusive. The process was not flawed. So the process was a good and fair process.

On a side note, I would like to reach out to you, the community, and see if we can get the exact letter Dr. Hurwitz wrote so we can read what he has to share about this protest. (Remember, he is the only sole leader in deaf higher education that has NOT been embattled, reviled, nor burnt in an effigy; in my books hes THE leader of the educational world as in regards to deaf education.) – Randal

  • During the rally, Joe Kolash was wearing a shirt he ordered online to show his support. It earned a good reception, and was asked to share an link to the online site where he purchased this shirt (Joe Kolash exhibiting the aforementioned shirt to Karen Christie)
